DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota tells Iowa's largest anti-tax group that massive debt is threatening the nation's very existence.
She says conservatives need to oust President Barack Obama in 2012 to complete the job from their gains in last November's congressional elections.
Bachmann gave the keynote speech at a Friday night reception in Des Moines. Her appearance at the Iowans for Tax Relief event has fueled speculation about her own possible presidential ambitions. Iowa's caucuses traditionally kick off the primary season.
Bachmann says excessive government spending put the country in a state of virtual bankruptcy. She told the several hundred activists that Congress brought on the problems by approving massive spending increases.
