Search resumes at crash site in western NC

UNAKA, N.C. – Searchers are hiking back into a rural mountain area of western North Carolina to search the twin-engine plane crash that killed at least one person.

Cherokee County spokesman Doug Clement said Thursday crews had secured the site and were waiting for daylight to continue the investigation.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say the plane was flying from suburban Atlanta to Hazard, Ky., when it crashed around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday some 125 miles west of Asheville.

Clement says officials still don't have a passenger list for the Beech Baron 58, which typically has four to six seats.

The North Carolina Forestry Service has contained a 5-acre brush fire started by the crash.

The plane is registered to Aero Resources Corp. of Hazard, which said it had no information on the crash.
