Report of Gunman Forces Oakland Elementary School Evacuation

OAKLAND, Calif. -- An Oakland elementary school has been placed on lockdown after an anonymous tip of a possible gunman inside, but school officials say all the students are safe.

Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint says all students except for one class already have been evacuated from La Escuelita Elementary School. Flint says the remaining class of special needs students is not in danger.

Police are searching the campus, and no gunman has been found.

Flint says the district received a phone call around 12:45 p.m. Monday from a man who said someone had entered the school armed with a rifle.

Flint says all the children are accounted for and are being taken to a parking lot for parents to pick them up.
